VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Applications are invited from suitably qualified Gambians to fill the following vacant position available at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, Tenengfara Business Complex, Kanifing Municipality.
The Senior Cybersecurity Officer supports the Principal Cybersecurity Officer in safeguarding the Ministry’s digital infrastructure. This role involves implementing cybersecurity protocols, conducting threat assessments, and mentoring junior officers. The officer plays a critical role in maintaining system integrity and ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Direct Entry
Minimum of a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, IT Security, Information Security, or related field.
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in cybersecurity operations or IT security roles.
Professional certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CEH, CISSP) are an added advantage.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the implementation of cybersecurity policies, strategies, and regulatory frameworks.
Conduct vulnerability assessments and report findings to the Principal Officer.
Monitor systems for unusual activity and escalate potential threats.
Support the deployment and maintenance of firewalls, antivirus software, and intrusion detection systems.
Participate in cybersecurity training sessions and help onboard new officers. • Maintain documentation of IT security controls and incident reports.
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure secure software and hardware configurations.
Assist in the development of cybersecurity awareness programs across the Ministry.
Perform basic digital forensic investigations under supervision.
Ensure regular updates and patches are applied to critical systems.
Support data backup and recovery operations.
Stay informed on emerging threats and recommend mitigation strategies.
SKILLS
Working knowledge of firewalls, antivirus systems, and intrusion detection tools.
Familiarity with Linux, Windows, and virtualization environments.
Basic understanding of data encryption, network protocols, and cybersecurity
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Experience with cybersecurity incident response and documentation.
Team-oriented mindset with mentoring capabilities.
SALARY
The salary attached to the position is Grade 9, of the Government Integrated New Pay Scale, i.e. D 117,240.00 ( One hundred and one seventeen thousand, two hundred and forty dalasi) per annum.
